About

Alfred B. Knight, MD, was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Scott & White Healthcare for more than 10 years, and now serves as President of the Scott & White Healthcare Foundation.

Under his leadership, Scott & White Healthcare undertook an aggressive period of growth, becoming one of the largest integrated group practices in the nation, with 12 hospital sites owned, partnered or managed (including a new Children’s Hospital opening in October 2011), two nursing homes/skilled nursing facilities and more than 60 clinics providing care to residents in a 29,000-square-mile service area across Central Texas.

An obstetrician, Dr. Knight has held various leadership positions at Scott & White and in American healthcare. A former chair of the VHA Texas Board of Directors, Dr. Knight was named to Modern Healthcare Magazine’s “50 Most Powerful Physician Executives” in 2010. At the height of the healthcare reform debate in 2009, he was invited to present to a national forum in Washington, D.C. on the subject “How Do They Do That? Low-Cost, High-Quality Health Care in America.” Scott & White Healthcare was the only Texas-based healthcare system, and one of only 10 health systems from across the country, invited to the conference.

He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with sub-specialty certification in maternal-fetal medicine, and is a professor at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine. He is involved in a variety of local and national organizations.

Dr. Knight holds a bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.D. from Case Western Reserve University. He lives in Central Texas with his wife and German Shepherd, Max.
